Losing Toby was hard

When my beloved Toby died, I felt like my heart had been ripped out. Even now, several months later, I am still not used to him not being by my side. He was the best companion a girl could ever have.

Even though we know their lifespans are shorter than ours, we still take pets into our hearts, only to have them broken when they leave us....but you wouldn't change that last day for all the joy that they bring along the way.

So many people dont seem to understand how important pets are to those who love them and that the grief we feel is real.

Please share your thoughts and stories and support others who are experiecing similar pain. It really does help when you know you are not alone.

Katrina xx

Thankyou so much for getting this site up and running. I lost my two babies today and I just wanted to let everyone know how much we loved them and what fantastic dogs they were. Being able to create a tribute page means that we can show of our beautiful puppies and let everyone know exactly how special they were. Thankyou. xox

Hi Katrina, I have only read about Toby's passing and I am deeply sorry, he was an adorable boy. I watched the two of you on TV and just loved the bond between the two of you. My thoughts will be with you on the 22nd, not only will you be honouring the first anniversary of his passing but more importantly you will be celebrating a wonderful life lived!!! I had to say goodbye to my beautiful Shadow back in March 2008. Shadow was a Kelpie/German Shepard/Blue Heeler and was a very smart, happy and loyal companion. It will be 3 years this March since she left me and went to wait for me at Rainbow Bridge and I still to this day miss her so much. Take care Katrina. xx

I heard you on 5AA (Adelaide) today speaking about this site and Toby. As soon as i got home, I found it and I have been smiling and tearing up all evening reading the love and the sadness and happiness here. I thought I was a nutter to feel how i do for my Lucy. Im a big strapping guy, but that doesnt stop me from having a heart. Now I dont feel alone anymore in my love and loss for my beloved companion, even though it has been years. Thank you for your time and effort to make this place so wonderful for us all.

Tellgio - Thanks so much for your kind words and understanding about Toby's anniversary. The milestones are SO tough aren't they!!  I love your idea of the balloon. I really want to do something extra special for Tobes and that is beautiful idea. Thank you

Katrina. Tobys anniversary is coming and I wanted to share what I did for my Lucy. On the first anniversary, I got a helium balloon (The environmentally friendly type). I tied a short poem and a dog bikkie and released it from her fave sunning spot. I just wanted her to know that I never have and never will forget her. Sure the end is so very hard for us and them, but the years we give each other are priceless. As the balloon floated away, I sent thoughts of love to her and reminded her to be a good girl. For me its been almost 12 years she left my side. But she has never left my heart. Be well and comforted on the 14th(?). I will never forget the day I actually met Toby. Awesome presence.

How wonderful is this forum.. I to only learnt of Toby`s passing today. Katrina, I am so sorry for your loss I realize how very painful it is and how you never get use to not having them around.

I presently have two beautiful Borders Jack and Molly.. whom are my best friends I had lost my 3 dogs in close proximity to each other prior to having Jack and Molly but I have preserved their memory in a portrait that I painted from photos so they are not only in my heart but in a picture which I see every day.

      Thankyou for this forum

      Dear Katrina

I only learned of Toby's passing while I was reading a magazine at my local GP surgery after suffering the devastating lost of my furry child Shiba from congestive heart failure.

It was comforting to know that I was not the only experiencing such gut wrenching grief and I am so pleased you have created this website.

Thanks guys- im thrilled that people are embracing the site ...we have only been live for 3 weeks and already have a lovely community of people sharing their personal stories and supporting each other ( as well as me). I just knew there was a huge need for people to have their grief validated because so many times I have heard people say that 'no one understands' when it comes to pet loss.

Thankyou Katrina so much for being so courageous through your grief after losing such a wonderful dog in Toby (and Milly); that you took time for those of us who want to celebrate the lives of our beloved pets/furkids who meant so much to us, and that brought such joy and unconditional love to our lives-thankyou again....x Wendy

I was so sorry to hear about Toby, Katrina. I grew up watching Harry's Practice and I thought he was such a beautiful, clever dog! I lost my dalmatian, Brandy, in 2008 and that left a very big hole in my heart. My other and new pets have brought happiness and love in my life again, but I still cry sometimes when I miss something that was so uniquely him. Thank you for giving us this place to share our memories, and I hope it helps your heart heal too xo

Katrina, I totally hear your grief. I too had 2 border collies one that I was particularly fond of. He like Toby went everywhere with me and I adored him. After a relationship breakup I had to leave him behind. The hardest day of my life . Reading your story has broken my heart and tears wont stop cause after 10yrs I miss Brock everyday. I now have 2 dogs again one which is like my shadow but the pain of my Brock will always stay with me, Thanks for starting this web page. x

Anyone who saw Toby on TV admired his handsome looks and his bright intelligence. I bet he just adored and loved you, Katrina.
