Favourite Things

Bed, sleeping, food, car rides, knowing I'm nearby.

Best Qualities

Gentle, loyal, curious, affectionate.

RANGER WAS GIVEN TO US BY AN ELDERLY FRIEND WHO COULD NO LONGER LOOK AFTER HIM.  HE HAD BEEN WITH TWO OTHER PEOPLE PRIOR TO THAT AND HAD BEEN KEPT IN A KENNEL, BEEN DE-BARKED AND ONLY BROUGHT OUT FOR DOG SHOWS.

HE WAS SCARED OF EVERYTHING AND EVERYONE.  THAT WAS IN DEC.2002 AND HE HAD JUST TURNED 3 YEARS OLD.

WE WERE LUCKY TO HAVE HAD HIM FOR 11 YEARS.  HE WAS A GENTLE SOUL.  NEVER GOT INTO FIGHTS. LOVED GOING FOR WALKS, TO THE BEACH AND CAR RIDES WHICH WAS THE ONLY TIME HE'D BARK FOR THE SHEER JOY AND EXCITEMENT. HE WAS GENTLE WITH ALL ANIMALS, LOVED MEETING PEOPLE AND RECEIVING PATS AND EXCLAMATIONS OVER HIS BEAUTIFULLY SOFT COAT.  HE STILL WOULDN'T PLAY BALL BUT WAS HAPPY TO WATCH OUR OTHER DOGS FETCH AND CATCH FRISBEES.  HE LOVED HIS FOOD AND WAS HAPPY TO SLEEP MOST OF THE TIME AS HE GOT OLDER.  HE WAS A GREAT FAMILY MEMBER, LOVING US AND IN RETURN, WAS VERY MUCH LOVED.

HE SLOWED DOWN A BIT BEING A SENIOR AND HAVING ARTHRITIS, BUT STILL LOVED AMBLING AROUND THE LARGE BACKYARD EVEN THOUGH HE ONLY HAD ONE EYE (THE OTHER WAS REMOVED DUE TO A CATARACT OP. THAT DIDN'T WORK OUT) AND LITTLE SIGHT LEFT IN IT DUE TO CATARACTS.  AS LONG AS WE DIDN'T MOVE THINGS ABOUT, HE COULD FIND HIS WAY AROUND.  I CALLED HIM 'MR PLOD' FOR THE WAY HE'D WALK AND 'VELCRO LAD' FOR THE WAY HIS FUR PICKED UP GRASS, ETC.

HE WAS CURIOUS ABOUT WHATEVER WAS HAPPENING AND WOULD COCK HIS HEAD TO THE SIDE TO LISTEN.  HE WAS A TRUE GENTLEMAN AND WE WERE EXTREMELY BLESSED TO HAVE HIM.

HE HAD BECOME MY SHADOW OF LATE, WANTING OR MAYBE NEEDING TO KNOW WHERE I WAS SINCE I WAS THE ONE WHO FED HIM, CARESSED HIM, HUGGED HIM AND LET HIM KNOW THAT SOMEONE DID LOVE AND CARE.  I'D ENCOURAGE HIM TO EAT BY RATTLING HIS BOWL IN FRONT OF HIM OR HAND FEED HIM TO ENSURE HE GOT ENOUGH AT MEAL TIMES AS HE BECAME DISTRACTED EASILY.

WE HAVE HAD HIM CLIPPED FOR SUMMER FOR THE LAST FEW YEARS AND HE LOVED FEELING COOLER, ACTING LIKE A PUPPY.

I HAD TO PUT HIM DOWN DUE TO TUMOURS THAT COULDN'T BE OPERATED ON AND ALSO DUE TO HIS AGE.  I HELD HIM IN MY ARMS AS HE WENT TO SLEEP AND I SPOKE GENTLY TO HIM SAYING MUM'S HERE, IT'S OK BUDDY. REST NOW.

I MISS YOU RANGER AND WILL ALWAYS LOVE YOU, MY GENTLE BOY!
